The process of renting a car from rent a car agencies in Belgrade and Serbia can seem too complicated and with a lot of problems and unknowns. To help you, we have created a short guide about renting a car in Belgrade.
Necessary documents
- Most importantly driver must have an identification document and driver's license;
- must present a valid driver's license for a minimum of 2 years;
- Another important and mandatory condition is that the driver is not younger than 21 years. This age limit varies with different agencies, so the limit can be set at 23 or 25 years;
- The rented vehicle cannot be driven by persons who are not authorized and registered in the contract with a car rental agency. If some damage occurs to the vehicle while it was driven by an unauthorized person, the signatory of the contract must pay for the damage.
Length of lease
- The minimum rental length is 1 day (24 hours). Most agencies do not tolerate delays if the allowed period is exceeded, it is charged as a new day;
- If it is returned before the agreed time, there is no refund of payment for unused time;
- If the vehicle is not collected at the agreed time, there is no guarantee that it will continue to be available;
- When picking up the car, customers have to fill and sign a vehicle condition form;
- The vehicle should be thoroughly inspected and every complaint must be documented, subsequent complaints will not be accepted;
- Returning and picking up the vehicle outside of working hours is charged additionally (not the case with all agencies);
- The vehicle is collected correctly and cleanly so that should be returned in such condition.
Driving abroad
Using the vehicle outside the borders of Serbia is not allowed without the consent of the rent a car agency.
Methods of payment
- payment is made when picking up the vehicle;
- It can be paid in cash or by credit card;
- A deposit is required for every rented vehicle. The amount of payment is determined depending on the length of the lease.
- VAT is included in the rental price;
- Fuel is not included in the rental price.
Insurance
This is the most complex question. The most common insurance packages offered by car rental agencies are;
- basic insurance;
- third party damage insurance
- collision damage waiver - CDW;
- theft protection - TP;
- personal accident insurance;
- some special packages that are offered. Each car rental agency has its own insurance packages, so it is necessary to view their website and to study in detail what each one offers and what the premium prices are.
